Archaiologia – Nostalgia del Futuro

The Nostalgia del Futuro series investigates the deep, existential connection between human and nature, by focusing on the ephemeral – though ineluctable – essence of time.
It is included in the Archaiologia project, a collection of deserted spaces where different time dimensions somehow coexist, and the presence of past events can be perceived even when long-time gone. We can look at the different environments as at excavation sites, in which the viewer is pushed to build a possible narrative by observing «what is left.»
The whole project is shot on medium-format negative film and then scanned. The different images are intended to retain and merge together the subtle imprecisions specifical to the negative and the digital, in order to enhance their nature of surfaces and their oniric/time-suspension feel.

La serie Nostalgia del Futuro indaga la profonda connessione esistenziale tra umano e natura focalizzandosi sull’essenza effimera – ma ineluttabile – del tempo.
La serie fa parte del progetto Archaiologia, un’investigazione di spazi in cui passato e presente in qualche modo coesistono, e in cui si avverte la presenza di eventi accaduti anche molto tempo prima. In tal senso, possiamo guardare ai diversi ambienti come a siti archeologici, per i quali chi guarda è spinto a costruire una possibile narrazione attraverso l’osservazione di «ciò che ne rimane».
L’intero progetto è scattato su negativo medio formato che viene poi scansionato. Le varie immagini sono concepite per trattenere e confondere le sottili imprecisioni sia del negativo che del digitale, che vanno a enfatizzare la loro natura di superfici e la loro atmosfera onirica di sospensione temporale.
